Outreach
Beyond celebrating the National Medals and its Laureates, The Foundation also strives to increase public awareness of how noble and important the pursuit of scientific discovery and technological innovation are.
Beginning in 2007, the Foundation endeavors to broaden its access and expand the scope and reach of its programming and outreach efforts in order to better achieve its mission.
Laureate e-Museum: And it is only fitting that the Foundation uses the power of the internet to create its own e-Museum , an archived and searchable database on the lives and works of our National Medals Laureates.
Mentoring: We are pleased to announce a new mentoring program in partnership with the Biotechnology Institute under which young BioGENEius award recipients, recognized for outstanding research in biotechnology, are paired National Medal laureates. Launched as a pilot program, the Foundation’s objective is to collaborate with similar S&T organizations with programs for young people so we may all connect the great minds of today and the great minds of tomorrow.
In the recent past, we have collaborated with the Department of Commerce and FSATL in the Student Technology Roundtable. Washington DC area students participated in a live event and shared the experiences via from the stage and in video with Technology Laureates and student winners of the Intel Science Talent Search, Discovery Challenge and Internet Science Fair competitions.
A gala tradition is to pair a student from Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, Washington DC’s science magnet school with a Laureate, where they can exchange ideas and information and where students can be eyewitnesses to the highest honor that this nation bestows on our discoverers and innovators.
