Hello. My name is Charleese Williams, and I’m a Neuroscience M.S. student studying the gut-brain axis in Drosophila. I love teaching, writing, reading, and research. I firmly believe that everyone’s differences are important in STEM, and that all questions are important.

Get to know Charleese

What are you most proud of in your work or life?

I’ve received awards that I am very thankful for, but more honestly it is probably professors trusting me to engage in both official and unofficial leadership roles. It shows that they know I’m capable.

What are your passions and hobbies?

I like watching mysteries, anime, horror media, reading, art, and nature walks! I also enjoy disability and neurodivergence advocacy.

Do you have a personal motto or other words to live by?

“Take it easy, dude. But, take it”. I can’t remember what that’s from but it conveys two ideas: not taking certain things too seriously/being too hard on onesself, but also taking enough care and action to succeed. That may not have been the intended context, but that’s how I view it.

Favorite snack food?

Macaroni and cheese. I feel like if it’s in a small portion, it counts as a snack.
