Dr. Brothers is the Associate Chair and Program Director of Graduate Programs in Exercise Science in the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at UT Arlington. I have an established research program that is nationally and internationally recognized that specializes in the assessment of cardiovascular and cerebral vascular function in healthy individuals and in populations with elevated risk for cardiovascular, metabolic, and cerebrovascular/neurocognitive diseases. In addition, my research focuses on the impact of health disparities and social determinants of health on elevated disease risk in various populations. My lab has been and is currently funded by various organizations including the National Institute of Health, the American Heart Association, and various industry companies. I am passionate about mentorship and education of undergraduate and graduate students both in classroom and laboratory settings. I am the Co-director of the Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Integrative Physiology (SURPINT) which is a program designed to give undergraduate students from underrepresented minority populations summer research experiences and opportunities in STEM related fields with a particular focus on cardiovascular physiology in health and disease. This program has received over $500,000 in funding from various internal and external funding agencies including the National Institute of Health and the American Heart Association. Lastly, during my time as a faculty member I have supervised 25 undergraduate students and 11 graduate students who conducted their thesis research under my supervision, and I have graduated 8 PhD students who conducted their dissertation research under my supervision.
