Gale Fernow

UX/Service Designer
GSA Technology Transformation Services – 18F

University of Maryland – B.A. Speech Communication

As an advocate for human-centered design for over 25 years, Gale spent her early career designing and implementing technology for “non-technical” end users like plumbers, electricians, and doctors. Today she works with digital product teams by balancing rigor with pragmatism, involving a diverse pool of users and stakeholders, and challenging assumptions to design solutions that are not only valuable and easy to use but accessible, inclusive, safe, and compassionate. Before Amgen, she worked to develop and implement early telemedicine systems and programs for medically underserved communities. She has worked for several healthcare startups, the US military and NATO, and a consumer research magazine – in a variety of roles including product management, research, analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation.
