inSTEM Internship Partners

The inSTEM program seeks to establish partnerships with organizations across various sectors, including industry, government, academia, and nonprofits. We welcome partnerships from a wide range of STEM fields and organizations that can support a diverse group of inSTEM Scholars, including U.S. citizens and international students. We aim to create inclusive and flexible partnerships that offer paid internship opportunities to inSTEM Scholars and alumni, providing them with skills and experiences to enhance their academic journey and competitiveness in the job market.

Core Partnership Criteria

To create a strong and effective collaboration, we have established specific criteria that ensure the quality and alignment of internship opportunities with our program’s goals. These criteria help us maintain high standards for the internships we offer to our Scholars, ensuring that each experience is both rewarding and supportive of their academic and professional growth. The core partnership criteria are as follows:

  • Paid Opportunities: All internship opportunities must be compensated.
  • Alignment with NSTMF Mission: Organizations interested in being an inSTEM internship partner should support the NSTMF mission of building inclusive STEM communities across the United States.
  • Skill Development: Internships should provide valuable experiences that supplement academic learning and enhance employability.

Partnership Engagement

There are numerous ways for internship partners to engage with the NSTMF in supporting inSTEM Scholars. These opportunities include, but are not limited to:

Comprehensive Support: Commit to offering summer internship opportunities for at least one inSTEM Scholar.

Event Collaboration: Collaborate with inSTEM to organize career events, application workshops, or information sessions specifically for the inSTEM Scholar community.

Marketing Partner: Partner with NSTMF to market internship opportunities to inSTEM Scholars through inclusion in a curated list of internship opportunities shared with Scholars.

Organizations are encouraged to combine different engagement opportunities and are welcome to propose alternative ways that they would like to partner with the NSTMF.

Onboarding

To ensure a smooth and effective collaboration, we have developed a comprehensive onboarding process for our internship partners. This process is designed to align organizational objectives with the goals of the inSTEM program, facilitate clear communication, and provide ongoing support throughout the partnership. The onboarding steps include the following:

1. Introductory Meeting

This initial meeting with the Sr. Director of inSTEM helps organizations learn about the inSTEM program, discuss their internship opportunities, and identify partnership options that align with inSTEM goals.

2. Information Sharing

Organizations will provide key information, including a point of contact (POC) and relevant website links to be shared with inSTEM students, as well as a logo to include on the inSTEM partner webpage.

3. Periodic Check-ins

Conduct regular check-ins with NSTMF staff to assess the partnership’s needs and progress and make any necessary adjustments.

4. Future Steps

Future steps will be tailored depending on the level of involvement to ensure the partnership continues to meet mutual goals and expectations.
