The National Science and Technology Medals Foundation (the NSTMF) is pleased to announce exciting leadership transitions as we enter a new chapter in 2025.

Effective January 1, 2025, Andy Rathmann-Noonan, who has served as President with remarkable dedication, will transition into a new role on the NSTMF Board of Directors. Andy’s visionary leadership has guided the Foundation through tremendous growth, including the expansion of programs like inSTEM, which fosters inclusion and opportunity for the next generation of STEM leaders. We are grateful for his continued involvement and look forward to the insights and contributions he will bring to the board.

We are also thrilled to welcome Dr. Mayowa Awe as our new Executive Director. Dr. Awe has been a driving force within the NSTMF, bringing innovative ideas and a passion for empowering emerging STEM talent. Under her leadership, the NSTMF will continue to support our programs, promote STEM inclusion, and strengthen connections across the community.

“Our focus remains unwavering: to provide a best-in-class inSTEM mentorship program that fulfills our commitment to fostering equity within the STEM community and empowering a diverse, thriving generation of STEM professionals.”

Additionally, Vinton G. Cerf, Chair of the Board, will step down at the end of this year after years of exceptional service. Vint has been instrumental in guiding the Foundation’s mission to celebrate the achievements of Laureates of the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology. His leadership has helped establish the NSTMF as a vital organization that uplifts the stories of those who shape the future through science and technology.

As Vint steps down, we are proud to welcome OpenAI’s Howard Ekundayo as the incoming Chair of the Board. Howard’s experience, energy, and passion will be essential in building on the Foundation’s legacy and advancing its mission.

“Andy’s visionary leadership has guided the Foundation through tremendous growth, including the expansion of programs like inSTEM, which fosters inclusion and opportunity for the next generation of STEM leaders.”
