A history of celebration

In 1990, the late Dr. George B. Rathmann, founding CEO and Chairman of Amgen, Inc., established the National Science and Technology Medal Foundation (NSTMF). Dr. Rathmann’s belief was that the presidentially awarded National Medal of Science (NMS) and National Medal of Technology and Innovation (NMTI) ought to be honored to the utmost degree. He founded the NSTMF to help accomplish this goal. We have been the principal partner of the Office of the President of the United States for honoring and celebrating the NMS and NMTI Laureates ever since.
